The artist in residence during Code Rood in Arnhem in May of 2017 was the beginning of a period of time during which sand and engines played a big role. I desire a machine that digs itself into the ground, like a drill. Before making this drill, I would like to create a number of machines which serve as practical research, and to identify the challenges that come with this construction. I also aim to test the properties of sand as a material; what does sand do, and how does it behave in interaction with moving parts?
